Diego Maradona

Diego-Maradona-006[1]It’s one of the big questions of the 2010 World Cup – what will Diego do next? He was a genius on the football pitch, no one questions that (aside from a few very bitter England fans), but being a top player and a top manager are two very different things. His Argentina side are packed with talent, starting with the little man who reminds many of Diego himself a few decades and pants sizes ago – Leo Messi. Messi has the footwork and the skills on the ball that Maradona once had, and maybe, just maybe, has a few things up his sleeve that his coach never did.

But some of the biggest stories on Maradona’s team isn’t who made the cut, but who didn’t. There was widespread criticism of his decision to leave Javier Zanetti and Estaban Cambiasso off of his selection, despite their excellent form with Inter Milan this season. With all of the attacking talent going forward, these two decisions in particular left many questioning their strength at the back.

Love him or hate him, Maradona is Argentina football – immensely talented, a little troubled, maybe a bit crazy, and always, always entertaining. Here is a roundup of some of our posts about Diego Maradona, and his exploits on the pitch, on the sideline, and in the press.
