Adidas Boots will break more than your Metatarsal

By: WC Bob | May 10th, 2006 | 5 Comments »

The World Cup shoe wars are really starting to heat up. First we had Nike, which supplied the boots that broke Wayne Rooney’s foot and England’s back. Now we have Adidas, which is trying to outdo its rivals in the bone breaking department. People taking hallucinogenic drugs should be advised that you might see the devil when you watch the commercial below.

Kind thanks to the Bratwurst kids for making life grand.

That was kinda neat in a strange and impossible to understand kind of way.

If Nike can’t be trusted to build a boot that can keep your feet safe and warm, why does adidas think we the footballing public will be any better at it?

And for the record, I don’t believe the boot is to blame, however much a convenient scapegoat it has become.

Try pausing it at the 23 second mark — is that some kind of subliminal message about Nike?

Chuck,

Very good eyes! I had seen this ad a couple of times already (on the adidas site), but never noticed that broken swhoosh.

Although we may never know if there was some intentional symbolism there, it sure makes good fodder for speculation.
