After all the ups and downs in Africa Cup of Nations Group B, the final standings are pretty much as predicted before the tournament began. Cote d’Ivoire first, Nigeria second, Mali just missing out in third and Benin last.

Nigeria’s destiny is in Cote d’Ivoire’s hands today. The Super Eagles need to win against Benin, and hope that Cote d’Ivoire beat Mali. And even then the winning margin in one of those games needs to be greater than one.

Côte d’Ivoire are already assured of a place in the quarter-finals, and will take first place in Africa Cup of Nations Group B if they avoid defeat here. Mali can leapfrog the Elephants with a win, but both are guaranteed to advance with a draw.

Angola just busted Africa Cup of Nations Group D wide open by beating Senegal 3-1. Now the other two teams face-off to see who can join the Palancas Negras on four ponts. Tunisia are probably favourites, but Carlos Alberto Parreira’s experiment with youth could still pay off for Banfana Bafana.
