Big Question: Who Starts Up Front For Madrid?

By: Daryl | July 28th, 2006 | 7 Comments »

Real Madrid’s signing of Rutgerus Johannes Martinius van Nistelrooij (Ruud van Nistelrooy to you and me) means they once again have too many forwards. With Robinho, Antonio Cassano, Julio Baptiste, Raúl and Ronaldo already on the books Fabio Capello faces quite a selection problem.

Robinho looked explosive at the World Cup, the talented but temperamental Cassano scored 4 in a recent friendly win, Baptiste is no mug, Ruud left United because he wasn’t happy on the bench, Raúl is a legend and Ronaldo is Ronaldo. None of these players will be happy getting splinters.

Even with Ronaldo recovering from surgery Capello still has too many names to choose from. Who would be your first choice pairing, and who’s headed for the Bernabeu exit?

Most coaches would dream to have Capello’s problems.

However, in my opinion the two starters are Cassano and Robinho. Two monster talents who are YOUNG and exposive players.

Ronaldo a big round of applause but it’s time to move to a different team.

Raul, Ruud and Baptiste come off the bench.

I hope they give Cassano a chance.

I remember watching a Madrid match last season in which Cassano wasted 5 easy chances and he was being booed by the supporters.

plenty of riches as always. and in the recent past, nothing to show for in terms of results. No, i’m not talking of brazil.

sounds similar enough.

I don’t understand how Real has managed to underperform the past few seasons — they have the best players in the world!

Seems stupid to buy up Ruud when they already have such high caliber strikers. Can anyone tell me why this was done, in terms of strategy or whatnot? Cause I just don’t see it at the moment.

the midfield isn’t as strong as it used to be, what with zidane’s injury. i wish madrid had its 2003 side once again, back when ronaldo was fit and roberto carlos wasn’t blasting free kicks into the stands.

I think that Robinho will probably be the best player of this team …he is explosiv clever and extraodinarily fast…
