Big Question: Who is the World Cup XI Goalkeeper?

By: WC Bob | May 1st, 2006 | 57 Comments »

Hey kids, this week you are going to have a lot of fun. Each day we’ll be asking for your position-by-position selections for this year’s World Cup all tournament team. By the end of the week we should have the 11 names that are going to end up making the all-star team. Before you rush to submit your vote, you’ll want to take into consideration not only the talent of an individual player, but also the likelihood that his team will advance past the first round in the tournament. We’re going to field a 4-4-2 for this team.

Today’s position is goalkeeper. Who do you think is going to be the top keeper in Germany?

You can vote with your head or with your heart, but please vote for one name only and please vote only for a keeper. We’ll tally the results and announce the winner on Friday so your selection must be made by the end of Thursday.

Thanks for playing along.

Jens Lehmann for sure, he’s the best around (unless a stupid ref sends him off near the start of a big game) and was vital to Arsenals champions league (near) success.

This is rediculious, with all do respect, Casillas is the only one who comes off his line for crosses, Cech and Buffon are brilliant shot stoppers but Casillas is just as good, and buffon and cech are really only shot stoppers (if Buffon is leader of his defence why is he not captain, instead his defender is) Casillas also has the best footwork in the world (he takes short quick steps not long slow ones) plus he’s captaining spain
(Van der Sar is HIGHLY over-rated)

Has anyone ever heard of Oliver Khan??? Goalkeeper extrodinare from Germany that helps led Bayer Munich to the champions league every year. I know that he is old but look at others like Beckham. He will still be able to keep up with them. Argentina will win it all.

Jens Lehmann is the best penalty saver in the world by far. Those saves he made in the Argentina quarter final were fantastic, he made an amazing save in the Champions Lg semi final and was great in the FA cup final 2004/05. Here are my top five.

1. Jens Lehmann
2. Gigi Buffon
3. Ricardo
4. Dida
5. Fabien Barthez

Van der Sar and Cech aren’t far behind but Casillas is probably 9 or 10 because he is dropping by the minute. Pepe Reina is also high up in the goalie ranks.

1. Gianluigi Buffon, who keeped Italy in the World Cup
2. Osvaldo Sanchez, 2 wonderfull save’s
3. Lehmann, who saved wondefull penalties
4. Ricardo, penalty-king
5. Casillas.

But not in the world cup is the number one place voor Iker Casillas en Buffon.

The worst keeper on this world cup? Barthez

I think that at the moment Jens Lehmann is the best and has been consitently on top form throughout last season and the world cup, and has also carried it into the begining of this years season.

1.Jens Lehmann
2.casillas
3.Buffon
4.Van der sar

Petr Cech is definitely the best keeper. He is so good even at a young age and already holds an unbroken cleansheet record. Most keepers like Buffon and Casillas have the best team in the world to back them up but Cech still can show he can pull it off even with a bad czech defence.
