Big Question: Who are the World Cup XI Midfielders?

By: WC Bob | May 3rd, 2006 | 41 Comments »

Each day this week we’re asking for your position-by-position selections for this year’s World Cup all tournament team. By the end of the week we should have the 11 names that are going to end up making the all-star team. Before you rush to submit your vote, you’ll want to take into consideration not only the talent of an individual player, but also the likelihood that his team will advance past the first round in the tournament. We’re fielding a 4-4-2 for this team.

Today’s position is midfielder. Please submit no more than four names. We’ll tally the results and announce the selections on Friday so your choices must be made by the end of Thursday.

Ronaldinho, Kaka, Gerrard and…hmm, who to pick for the fourth spot?

Cristiano Ronaldo, if he stops being such a little brat.

Gattuso & Riquelme in the centre, Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi on the flanks.

With Messi, I don’t need Ron.
Kaka & Robben have the tendency to fade out of games too often for my liking. Gattuso will act as a tank, cutting everyone who tries to stop Riquelme down.

Hm, I’d probably play with 5 midfielders:

Vogel in a devensive role
Then Messi and Ch. Ronaldo on the sides, Lampart in the middle and Ronaldhino with all the freedom he wants.

I’d have Cristiano Ronaldo on the right, Ronaldinho and Claude Makelele in the center, and Joe Cole on the left

You know there are true football fans on this blog when they recognize the brilliance of the Croatian charismatic midfielder Srna.

When there are so many ‘names’ to choose from Spain, England, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Netherlands and France it’s good to know that our little country is a blip on the radar.

I would like to add to this list Niko Kranjcar…I really hope he showcases his natural talent.

And Ronaldinho and Figo as well.

Kaka?? KAKA??? c’mon guys. I love the guy but he has been out of form and non-existant on the pitch.

I would take Gerrard over Lampard anyday. Ronaldinho because he’s amazing. C. Ronaldo is a punk, so not him. Messi I would def. choose, and Ji Sung Park just because I’m korean and with those other 3 it really wouldnt matter how Park does, although he probably would do a good job.

Schweinsteiger (left)
Frings (centre,solid)
Riquelme or Ballack (centre,Riquelme was more creative, but ballack carried injury through world cup and on his day ballck is magic)
Lennon (right, didn’t play much in world cup but is hugely talented,in my opinion far better than beckham, maybe odonkor aswell but only because he’s fast as hell.
