Big Question: Who are the World Cup XI Forwards?

By: WC Bob | May 4th, 2006 | 40 Comments »

Each day this week we’re asking for your position-by-position selections for this year’s World Cup all tournament team. By the end of the week we should have the 11 names that are going to end up making the all-star team. Before you rush to submit your vote, you’ll want to take into consideration not only the talent of an individual player, but also the likelihood that his team will advance past the first round in the tournament. We’re fielding a 4-4-2 for this team.

Today’s position is forward. Please submit no more than two names. We’ll tally the results and announce the selections on Friday so your choices must be made by the end of Thursday.

I’d like to say Henry, but Theirry the Gunner seems to be a different player than Thierry le Blue.

So let’s make it…Ronaldo (again!?) and Tevez.

This is a tough one — there are a lot of good strikers, but it’s hard to tell whose teams will go far, or which players will hav a bad tournament. That being said:

- Shevchenko
- Adriano

Pedro – Nice video. Don’t think that keeper will make our XI though.

[...] I was looking at Bob’s post (Who are the World Cup XI Forwards?) thinking that I would be the only voter for Ronaldo, but even under heavy criticism from Real Madrid’s fans and from the press I saw other people choosing him to their side. After his phoenix-like return in the 2002 World Cup, we can expect anything from him. Now there is an article in the SI site about him that is totally worth reading. After so much badmouthing from Platini and other world-class footballers, he got this nice article pointing out his career achievements, like the fact that he played for Brazil 97 matches, and lost only eight. I think I heard some jaws hitting the ground… [...]
