Big Question: Which Country do you want to Host a Future World Cup?

We have no doubt that Germany is going to be a great host for this year’s World Cup. The stadiums are fabulous, the country is an organized machine and other than the stuff you’ll find in the stadiums, the beer is delightful. We can’t fault FIFA for picking Germany for 2006. We also think South Africa 2010 will be pretty cool. Our question today is where would you like to see future World Cups played. We have one rule: you can’t pick your own country.

Forget FIFA’s schedule for upcoming tournaments and pick the one country where you would most like to watch the greatest sporting event in the world.

    How about Amarican Samoa?

A panscandinavian tourney would be classy.

  • Ahmad

    England !

  • Luis Carlos

Since I wich I could atend to every world cup starting in SoutAfrica, ofcourse I’m not picking Mexico. Here are my choices:

    1. Uruguay (Argentina or any SAmerican country)
    2. Croatia (Eastern Europe)
    3. Australia (Awesome!!)

  • DasBoot

    Brazil

sorry next time is of course south africa I was thinking of 2014 ;)

  • kapcro

Brazil, if not there then Argentina.

    Brasil, meu Brasil Brasileiro!!!

    CROATIA

  • B’slav

Why not let it be co-hosted by former Yugoslav republics, Croatia would never make it on their own, I don’t think even Serbia could but if you put together some of the big stadiums from all the reps you’ve got an adiquate playing field.

    SCG Marakana – 54,000 to 75,000
    SCG NVJ – 32,000
    SCG Gradski (S) 25,000
    SCG Cika Daca – 22,000 to 30,000
    SCG Mladost – 11,000 to 20,000
    SCG Gradski (NS) – 17,000
    SCG Omladinski – 14,000
    SCG Pod Goricom – 21,000

    CRO Maksimir – 40,000
    CRO Poljud – 35,000
    CRO Gradski Vrt – 20,000
    CRO Kantrida – 15,000

    BIH Kosevo – 37,000
    BIH Grbavica – 16,000
    BIH Bjelo Polje – 12,000

    MCD Gradski – 20,000

Put together the best of thees and its possible.

    - keep in mind that most of theese are single stand stadiums which are easily upgradable if the finances aproove.

I say Portugal. They did a super job with EC’04, the infrastructure is in place…and you can eat one helluva sardine.

  • Answerman21

I would have to say Tahiti. Great vacation spot, hahaha. In all seriousness I think with 2010 in South Africa and 2014 basically unoficially in Brazil I think 2018 should go to jolly old England. Then with 2022 I would go back to North America.

  • Cordobes

Australia would be hot, they would be a great host….

  • http://portugal.worldcupblog.org Luis Paulo

England or Italy. It would be easier for England since Italy hosted in 1990. I believe that a WC should be played in Europe and this 2 countries have so much passion for the game.

  • Cajun Nick

I’d love to see something in the Americas – Brazil or Argentina – because for us in the US there wouldn’t be the problems with the time difference. Of the two, I think that it would depend on which country can demonstrate the best infrastructure and resources.

However, if it has to be somewhere else, then I’d pick Ireland/Scotland.

  • Nayo

I think it would have to be Mexico. People forget that 86 was considered the greatest World Cup ever. Also Mexico already invests more money in infrastructure than any other country in America. Another great point is the atmosphere. Friendly people, various cities, at least a couple of huge stadiums. Plus Brazil probably wouldnot play in Maracana (doesn’t have the structure for a World Cup final and too old) so imagine seeing a final in the Azteca Stadium with another 103,999 people. It’d be great.

  • soze

B’slav..> And where would you put the final?.You now that debate would spark a new war.

  • justin

give it to canada they need it

  • Angelo Mattiello

Brazil deserves one… But I’d also like it to be hosted in Eastern Europe, Australia or Cenrtal America (perhaps between two countries, although I believe Blatter said there will be no more co-hosting of the World Cup in the future, but who is to assure that?)

Oh, and of course, what about Mexico? :) Perhaps in 2022…

PS: Uruguay 2030, let’s return to where it all started…

  • sihidat

I think Australia would be a good host!

  • http://www.akc77.com AKC77

I agree with sihidat. Australia and New Zealand could co-host the world cup.
There are some amazing stadiums and it is a growing sport with a huge following there.

  • B’slav

The final of Co-Yugoslavia 2006 will be held at the stadium that FIFA find most suitable for the event. :)

  • the duke

    POLSKA!!!

  • http://www.viuasfotos.com/euler.htm Euler

    Australia is nice.

  • http://australia.worldcupblog.org Matt

Australia should host. Its about the only event we havent hosted.

    Bring on the World Cup!

  • nick

has to be Australia. Held the best olympics eva in Sydney and can only do a better job hosting the World Cup with great stadiums all around the country. Now that South Africa are hosting it in 2010, it would sure the World cup has in fact been hosted on every continent.

  • lawrance

AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We have done it with the Olympics and we can do it with the World Cup. It will also boost the A League Football in the country. C’mon World bring it here.

  • james

it would be dead in the middle of winter in aussie world right?

MExico would be nice but 3 times?

From Europe it is clear to me. Let England and Spain duke it out and let the party begin because that would be an awesome smash up/fiesta. Apart from that who can deny Brazil (still winter but a warmer winter) and i just get the feeling that flsuh with EU cash one of those new guys could make and interesting run. something like a Czech/Slovakia mix

  • james

    One more comment.

Who CAN host the world cup? Given 9/11 in the US, bombings in Indonesia, Madrid, London etc, and we are talking about one of if the not THE biggest public stages in the world. FIFA has to be smart enough to pick a place that has the defense and intelligence infrastructure to pull it off with a little danger as possible.

To me that puts a lot of countries that would be great and deserving hosts on the bubble.

  • http://yahoo mario pantaleon

It has to be in MEXICO! 2010 is our year!

  • nestor

Mexico and the United States, with the US hosting the opening match in Pasadena (1994 Final) and Mexico hosting the final in Azteca(1970 & 86), stadium where both Pele and Maradona lifted the cup….and well Mexico should try to build better stadiums and well the US already has great stadiums…and terrorist wont do anything cause the world cup is even loved by them, common is futbol….the sport that unites the world….

  • brent

Australia and Brazil would be great hosts! But maybe within the next 10 World Cups we can bring it back to the US!

  • eduardo

i think mexico should be host to the 2014 world cup

  • http://www.googel.co.uk katie

why not in albania always in england germany france wts wrong with ather countries

  • http://www.googel.co.uk katie

    in albania

  • Nour

Lebanon! Itd be great to have it in a arab country!:-)

  • Andrew

England should get one soon, they haven’t hosted it since 66. I also think Canada should get it too. They can use the stadiums that the current CFL teams use.

  • Maradonnie

Why not a neutral place like Antarctica?

  • Mali

I don’t like the idea of Southafrica 2010. I think is very far!! I am with Brazil 2012 and of course Uruguay 2030 will be wonderful. Let’s go where everything started one hundred years ago. About the infrastructure…Come on guys, the FiFa has a lot of money, just build new soccer fields and that’s it!
