Would You Skip the African Cup of Nations to Play for Derby County? Hossam Ghaly Would

Hossam Ghaly getting shirtyBetween you and I, I’ve never really liked Hossam Ghaly. The Egyptian midfielder undoubtedly has talent, but made a (bad) name for himself in May 2007 by throwing his shirt to the ground when substituted out of a Spurs game (pictured left, video after the jump.) He never played for them again. Then Ghaly’s £3 million move to Birmingham City fell through once he discovered that pre-season training involved running. Also Birmingham’s players weren’t good enough for him.

But apparently Derby County’s are. Ghaly is about to secure a loan move to the Premiership’s bottom club, and is so keen to do so that he’s pulled out of Egypt’s African Cup of Nations squad.

Now I understand Ghaly has burned his bridges at Tottenham and needs a way out. But there’s nothing to stop the guy signing for Derby and then heading off to represent Egypt. Having not played a game of proper football since getting shirty at Spurs, Ghaly could benefit from some intensive tournament experience at the African Cup of Nations.

Not to mention that life at Derby County is going to be a series of beatings from bigger and better Premier League teams (which is nearly all of them.) So good luck with that Hossam Ghaly. And when you’re getting roundly booed by first Birmingham and then Tottenham fans in early February, just remember you could have been at the African Cup of Nations instead.

As promised, here’s the infamous Ghaly shirt incident, in slow motion and set to music.

I guess I don’t see the problem here. I am personally all for throwing shirts to the ground. Provided they’re not wearing boring stuff like UnderArmor underneath.

(I really need to stop saying things like this.)

And now, after watching the video, I must say I’m shocked. SHOCKED!

(That you didn’t maximize the size of the video before giving it to us.)

I read somewhere that during Martin Jol’s tenure, Tottenham probably did the least running out of anyone in the premiership. They did all these nifty footwork drills and practiced crosses and passes by trying to get the ball in a shopping cart (there’s a picture of that somewhere on the net). That might explain why they fall apart at the end of games a lot.

Although it doesn’t really explain why Robinson seems to let howlers in every other week (in fairness I think he’s doing better recently right?). So really Ghaly’s fall can be attributed to Martin Jol training regimen! haha, just playing, I couldn’t believe that story when I first read it on the offside. Derby could use him though so it’s a win for them. Not sure about this kid’s decision making. A good African cup could have opened more doors.

That makes sense Rami. If Spurs were slacking in training then that would explain why Ghaly was so shocked at Birmingham’s pre-season regime. But still agree that his decision making (off the field at least) is poor.

As for Robsinson, I’m afraid he was up to his old tricks over the weekend. Have a look at number 8 on this list, and the second goal in the video.

Wow, this guy is such a sad cunt. Hope he fails at Derby.

    Bah. Never needed him.

    HAHAHAHAHA what a fool.

Wow, what a considered and thought provoking blog!

Yeah, what a stupid decision to come to Derby, getting 90 minutes game after game in the Premiership instead of going to Ghana and probably not even making the bench because of his lack of match fitness. He’ll learn more half a season of beatings from these so called “bigger and better Premier league teams” than he would from years of playing for Spurs reserves.

He’s made a lot of mistakes in the past, if I were a Spurs or Birmingham fan I’d probably be pissed off with him too, but all I can judge him on is his conduct here at Derby and he hasn’t put a foot wrong.
