Senegal Coach Packs His Bags and Leaves With a Game to Go
Senegal coach (or at least former Senegal coach) Henryk Kasperczak has fallen on his sword following the 3-1 loss to Angola in Africa Cup of Nations Group D on Sunday. Kasperczak offered no excuses. “I have offered my resignation to the football federation and it has been accepted,” said the Pole. “I have told the players of my decision. I’m the one who is responsible for the results.” And with that he packed his bags and left.
Senegal had been hot favourites to advance from Group D, but so far have only one point from the 2-2 draw with Tunisia. Seems odd for Kasperczak to leave mid-tournament, but at least he’s been honest and up front. Qualification is still a possibility for Senegal if they beat South Africa by a decent score on Thursday and Angola beat Tunisia, but Kasperczak obviously doesn’t think he’s the man for the job. His assistant Lamine Ndiaye will take over for the game against South Africa.
