Morocco vs Namibia – OpenThread

By: Daryl | January 21st, 2008 | 21 Comments »

Morocco beat Namibia 5-1 in Group A, in front of a very sparse looking Accra crowd. There was a hat-trick from Alloudi (two in the first four minutes) a penalty from the excellent number 10 Sektioui and a header from Zerki. Brendell pulled one back for Namibia in the first half but it was a futile gesture.

Morocco 5-1 Namibia

FULL-TIME And that’s it. Morocco have finished hammering Namibia. The Atlas Lions are now top of Group A.

90:00 3 minutes of injury time for Namibia to endure

73:00 GOAL! Substitute Zerka scored a great header from a corner. Celebrates by painting a “Zed” in the air.

70:00 Now Hadji is subbed off. Seems Morocco are pulling their best players so they don’t take any more Namibian whacks.

67:00 Sektioui comes off to a cheer. Alloudi scored the hat-trick, but Sektioui has been Morocco’s best player.

57:00 Gariseb gets a very well deserved yellow card after trying to snap Alloudi in half with a nasty tackle.

45:00 Second half is underway. Let’s hope this doesn’t get too bad for Namibia…

HALF-TIME 4-1 with 45 gone. Great stuff if you’re a Morocco fan. Not so great if you support Namibia.

43:00 Handbags between Jacobs and Kabous. Benjamin gets involved too. Nothing serious though.

39:00 GOAL! Sektioui scores from the spot. Makes it look easy.

38:00 Penalty – Morocco fullback Chretien chopped down in the box.

28:00 GOAL! Another one for Morocco. Alloudi gets his hat-trick with an excellent header at the far post. He’s now far and away the tournament top scorer. Great skill by Sektioui to beat his fullback and get the cross in.

23:00 GOAL!!! Brendell pulls one back for Namibia. Great through ball from Benjamin, Brendell miscontrols slightly (long grass again) but recovers to slot it in the corner. Game on!

04:00 GOAL! Hadji puts Alloudi through with a clever pass. Alloudi flicks it over the defender and sidefoots it past the keeper. This is looking very bad for Namibia. Luckily for Namibia the stadium in Accra looks almost empty.

01:00 GOAL! Chamakh hits the post, Alloudi scores the rebound. 1-0 to Morocco. horrible start for Namibia. Oh dear.

00:00 We have kick off.

- National anthems have been sung. Here are the line ups:

Morocco: Fouhami, El Kaddouri, Basser, Ouaddou, Erbate, Safri, Kabous, Hadji, Alloudi, Sektioui, Chamakh

Namibia: Shiningayamwe, Piennar, Gariseb, April, Benjamin, Ngatjizeko, Jacobs, Risser, Brendell, Bester, Kaimbi

PREVIEW

The Big Picture: Group A. Morocco v Namibia. Atlas Lions v Brave Warriors. Accra. 15:00 kick-off, local time (15:00 GMT, 16:00 CET, 10:00 EST, 07:00 PST)

Ghana beat Guinea 2-1 yesterday so they currently top Group A. This is both Morocco and Namibia’s first game of the tournament. The Atlas Lions are expected to maul The Brave Warriors, but tournament football is rarely so straightforward.

Scout Report – Morocco:
Attacking mid/support striker Youssouf Hadji has been in good form for Nancy, and he’ll likely operate behind Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh in Morocco’s forward line. Chamakh has aeriel presence and strength but also nice technique. The 24 year old is already well known in France but his name could be known worldwide if plays to his potential in Ghana. Talal El Karkouri is a big presence at the back, while Youssef Safri is a reliable tackler and passer in midfield. A longer (much longer) Morocco team preview can be found here.

Scout Report – Namibia:
The Brave Warriors are mourning the passing of Ben Bamfuchile, the Zambian coach who led the team through qualification. Much will depend on how well-organized Dutch replacement Arie Schans can get his team, though they’ll be sure to play with pride to honour the memory of their former coach. Defensive midfielder Collin Benjamin – who plays or Hamburg in the Bundesliga – is Namibia’s most accomplished player. He’s a powerful midfield bruiser but can also play a bit. He’ll need to do both for Namibia to get a result. The full Namibia team preview can be found here.

The small coverage on this is an outrage! Do we at least get to compare kits?

Chamakh definitely had his chance early on. I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t get one in the second half, especially if Sektoui and Hadji keep opening Namibia up.

That has been a massacre, pure and simple. I’m also disappointed about the lack of people in attendance. The first half and second half (up to the 75th minute) were entertaining, but after the 75th minute mark it just got boring for me. Morocco’s defence seems prone to complacency, so let’s see how they do against Guinea.

Anyone knows where I can watch the game between Morocco and Namibia.
I know it’s already over but looking where it can be online. Your help is very much appreciated.

I saw the first goal of Alloudi, very awesome. Chamakh didn’t score today but that first goal his creation. You can see it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EbXMwqKe8M
Too bad Alloudi is injured and hope he recovers soon enough to play against Gana.

Go lions
Go Morocco
