Let’s Get Ready to (Africa Cup of Nations) Rumble…

By: Daryl | February 1st, 2008 | 4 Comments »

Essie and OlofinjanaYou probably know this already, but when the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals get going on Sunday, the first game will be Nigeria vs Ghana. That means two of Africa’s best teams - and fiercest rivals - battling it out for a place in the semi-finals. And the build up has begun.

Just under a year ago, Ghana beat Nigeria 4-1 in a friendly at Brentford’s Griffin Park, Engalnd. Nigeria are still stinging from that beating, and Wolves midfielder Seyi Olofinjana (pictured with Michael Essien) is relishing the rematch.

“It’s a perfect opportunity to right the wrongs of last year,” he said. “They not only beat us, but walloped us in London Now it’s about the players, and the country to restore dented pride. It’s the most suitable way of getting our revenge against Ghana on their home ground.”

We’ll be LiveBlogging Ghana vs Nigeria on Sunday, where we’ll see who comes out on top.

As i have already written on my blog http://www.gamegist.blogspot.com ,i think this game holds far more than people think.
Just about a year ago,Ghana beat Nigeria in a friendly in London after 15 years of trying. One could say that since the match will be normally classified as a non competitive one,it did not hurt our pride,it did.It wasn’t just a defeat,it was a real wacking, one the Nigerians will want to put right behind them by beating the Ghanians.
A lot of people will say that the Super Eagles have not impressed at the tournament,i will like to tell those that they are in for a shocker on sunday.

Definitely excited about this match. Even the Cote d’Ivoire match will be entertaining as a David-Goliath type match-up…that is until the Elephants score a couple first half goals and put the game out of reach.

This game holds mouth watering prospect for any lover of the beautiful game, although my head tells me ghana should win it, but my heart for some funny reason just doest want to listen, and somewhat feel a nigeria win of 2-1 after extra time, and they eagles to be feted by the nigeria press for their “amazing turnaround”, lol, one got to love footaall in africa, lmao
