The December 2007 FIFA World Rankings have Nigeria as the highest placed African Cup of Nations team, with the Super Eagles up in 20th place. Worst off were Namibia down in 114th. There’s obviously some debate about the accuracy of FIFA’s ranking system, but here’s how Sepp Blatter and friends see the African Cup of Nations teams, one to sixteen with their FIFA World Ranking in brackets.
1. Nigeria (20)
2. Cameroon (24)
3. Guinea (33)
4. Côte d’Ivoire (37)
5. Senegal (38)
=6. Egypt (=39)
=6. Morocco (=39)
8. Ghana (43)
9. Mali (46)
10. Tunisia (47)
11. Zambia (65)
12. Angola (73)
13. South Africa (77)
14. Sudan (92)
15. Benin (=97)
16. Namibia (114)
