Alex Ferguson Gets in on the African Cup of Nations Action

By: Daryl | January 17th, 2008 | 1 Comment »

He kept it quiet, but seems Alex Ferguson was feeling a bit left out of all this African Cup of Nations business. Chelsea had to wave goodbye to Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and co., while Arsenal are facing a month without Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue. But Fergie wasn’t losing anybody. So back in December Fergie went out and signed Angola striker Manucho Gonçalves, who scored for his country (above) in a recent 3-3 draw with Egypt.

Manucho is still waiting on a work permit, so may have to be sent out on loan for the foreseeable future. But he is officially a Manchester United player, so Fergie can now claim membership of the not-so-select group of Premiership managers who’ve lost players to African Cup of Nations duty.

Manucho seems to be a very raw talent, it will be interesting to see how he does at United, because he is already about 24 so is hardly one to sit in the reserves for a few years as a future prospect. Id just also like to thank you at WCB for putting my blog http://www.jf-justfootball.blogspot.com in your daily dose category. just wanted to say i have moved domain now to http://www.just-football.com, where you can still find my ACNs preview and other articles.

Keep up the good work!
