what a cunty performance by Algerians

  • Johnny

Could those three reds end up hurting the Algerians during the group stages of the WC? I seem to remember Arshavin having two games suspension time at the beginning of Euro ‘08.

Or is that only red cards during qualifying?

Well, in hindsight, I suppose it actually helped the Russian as he came out fresh and blazing in game three while their opposition was looking rather tired.

Article 39, paragraph 2 of the FIFA disciplinary code states: “players unable to complete a suspension imposed during “confederation competitions for representative teams are carried over to the representative team’s subsequent official match in a competition organised by Fifa.”

When Ghana qualified for World Cup Germany 2006 Laryea Kingston was not eligible to play during the group stages at the World Cup finals in Germany. He had received a four-match suspension after he was expelled from Ghana’s group match during the Africa Cup of Nations 2006.

Then, FIFA issued a statement to BBC:

“We can confirm that the Fifa disciplinary department has formally informed the Ghana Football Association that the remaining un-served match suspensions of Laryea Kingston will indeed be carried over to Ghana’s subsequent official matches in a competition organised by Fifa, in this case, the 2006 Fifa World Cup,”

sscouser – Thanks for the citing. Answers my question, and that’s quite the precedent ruling as well. Ouch!

    Egypt > Algeria

    ’nuff said

  • Jose75

Agreed, Seth. What they should have done to determine who was worthy of going to the World Cup is have Egypt and Algeria play three games–each at home/away and one in a neutral ground. Then whoever wins the most (or scores the most goals) should have gone to the World Cup.

Unfortunately, since that never happened, we’ll never know deserved the World Cup berth. :(

Egypt has gone on a bit of a revenge tour in the CAN. They have beaten 3 of the 5 African qualifiers convincingly and have a chance at a 4th on Sunday… Too bad they choked in the game that mattered…
