Africa Cup of Nations 2010 Final: Egypt vs Ghana, Pick Your Winner.

African-Cup-of-Nations-Trophy_2386276No shortage of drama in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals was there? Not to mention red cards. But that’s all in the past. Time to focus on the future. There’s the third place playoff between Nigeria and Algeria on Saturday, but the big event is Sunday. Ghana vs Egypt in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations final.

I’m not going to type up a detailed preview here. To read someone who knows – and I mean really knows – about these two teams, visit Gary at the Ghana blog and Tamim at the Egypt blog. Those guys know their business.

My only question: Who do you think will win?

It’s the youth of Ghana (who are without Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari or Stephen Appiah, but have young hotshots like Dede Ayew and Kwadwo Asamoah) or the experience and teamwork of Egypt, who may not be going to the World Cup, but are looking to make it three Africa Cup of Nations wins in a row.

The Africa Cup of Nations final is Sunday, January 31st, with kickoff at 5pm in Luanda. That’s also 5pm CET, 4pm in the UK, 11am US Eastern time and 8am US Pacific time. We’ll be LiveBlogging the game here on WorldCupBlog.

If you’re in the UK, the game is live on BBC Two. If you’re in the USA, then you can watch online – very legally – with MyAfricanFootball.com. Click below for details.

Egypt to win another title. Although my predictions have been a total FAIL as of late :P

  • Brian

Egypt will win an unprecedented 3 continental titles in a row. I don’t think any country ever did that!
Ghana are a good team but they don’t look threatening like Egypt.

  • http://scotland.worldcupblog.org Ian

Yeah, I have to give the advantage to Egypt too. This is all they have to play for, with the World Cup passing them by, and they’ve been unstoppable so far. With the way I’ve predicted this tournament so far, though, this means Ghana will win like 8-0.

  • MoMONEY

Ghana have nothing to lose which will make them play great. I expect it to be way closer than expected. Egypt to scrape it out but quite possibly in extra time or penalties

  • http://ghana.worldcupblog.com Gary

Pls see the Ghana page for the first in the series of the first ever cross-blogging between two final countries: Ghana and Egypt.

    http://ghana.worldcupblog.org

Tamim of Egypt blog would soon put up his country’s version. Keep checking!

  • Tesloach

I am pretty sure that, Ghana will win this 2010 Africa of nation. For instance, there are good players within their team as well as possible. I wish micheal Essian, mantori and other more will completely engage the all the team players.

  • Habane

    Egypty is going to win

  • Djibouti

laissez les winers réguliers gagner une plus de fois
let the regular winers to win one more time

  • Noah

i’m deffo for Egypt. even tho i’m Egyptian myself, i think we play with more flare than ghana.. so ISA elfoz!
I predict: 2-0 to Egypt. hopefully!

As for the finals, the pressure is on Egypt. The Black Stars of Ghana will play at ease because they have nothing to lose. Ghana’s young squad contains eight graduates from last year’s under 20 world champions and they have surpassed expectations to reach their first Africa Cup of Nations final since 1992.

The black stars have made it to the finals thanks to three successive 1-0 wins, against Burkina Faso, Angola and Nigeria.

“We won 1-0 and who knows, maybe the same score will be repeated on Sunday.” – Former striker Tony Yeboah (who scored 29 times for Ghana in 59 appearances between 1985 and 1997).

Is Asamoah Gyan fit? If so, Ghana will win.

  • Dr.ahmed

I think Egypt will win we won Nigeria,Cameron&Algeria. we deserve that.

  • Sameh

I think we could egdge this one if we maintain the focus we had against Cameroon and the Egyptian governorate of Algeria. But it’ll be a scrappy affair just like every other final in the world.

  • haidar hassan

its expected to be one of the greatest matches of this tournament because both teams played well and demonstrated their talent in a full scale, I think Ghana will win the game by one goal through a penalty kick.

  • http://www.greendaytravelsghana.com shabash

Egypt is going to have the full advantage of playing more experienced players just as Nigeria did but Ghana will surely win again. 2:1

  • Mohamed Saafan

I think Egypt is well oriented with Africa Cup of Nations, going to beat young talents of Ghana. ISA I predict Egypt 3-0. We’re going back with our cup hopefully; to score a deserved 3 in a row.

  • fady

Survey about which team is better, and which one you predict will be the champion of CAN 2010.

hey people inshallah eygpet will get the cup and a one thick i want to say to eygpet play good and easy going like u done with Algeria ok god bless u all and the muslim i love u eyget so much.

  • Ryan Stuart

In my opinion, I have a strong feeling that Egypt will win the final match, but it will be close. I am quite shocked with the 4 – 0 win over Algeria (though that doesn’t say that I’m not happy about it!). I thought what the Algerians did to the Egyptians was quite rude and they deserved the three red cards. Good luck to Ghana and Egypt, but I hope the Pharaoh’s win and I have faith in them. This will be a good match and victory.

  • M Rules!

Hi! I’ve not watched all the games but I think I’ve seen enough to judge the winner. It seems the Pharoahs are pissed off about not getting the ticket to South Africa and are in desperate need to prove themselves that their absence from the world cup is mere luck or mistake. The youngsters of Ghana are also giving their best to show what they got and I believe they are strong team after I saw their determination with the Nigerians.
But I have to admit Ahmed Hasan will make sure the cup goes to Egypt and I say they deserve it after all they showed against the big boys (Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria).
    Score: Egypt 2 : 0 Ghana

  • Moe

Ghana is very good team and we Egyptians respect there team and there players. We will do our best to defend our title and bring the CUP back to its home EGYPT

I hope we can see a good soccer match and enjoy the game.

I dont think there will be alot of goals both teams will try to make no errors.

Egypt strikers can finish this game early just watch all Egypt Goals here on this link:

I agree with M Rules…Egypt have extra motivation in this tournament having missed out on the World Cup – this is the be all and end all for their year already, and they want to prove that they are Africa’s best despite missing out on the big show in the summer.

3 in a row would be a great achievement – would that be their 6th or 7th overall, something lie that. It’s a great record, but the anonaly is of course that they’ve only been in 1 World Cup, and so Cameroon etc are more highly regarded globally as a result of their World Cup appearances. Algeria will be in their 3rd World Cup this year, well ahead of Egypt, but Egypt are THE dominant force over recent years in the CAN, and I tbink they will win it again tomorrow.

As for Ghana, they are obviously a good team with some exciting youngsters but this final might be one step too far for now, and of course they have bigger fish to fry come the summer.

THE BLACK STARS HAVE SUFFERED A LOT IN THIS TOURNAMENT.THEIR KEYS PLAYERS WERE ALL INJURED,SO FAR SO GOOD THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COME THIS FAR.
I BELIEVE AND HOPE THEY ARE GOING TO BEAT THE EGYPTIANS BY A LONE GOAL

  • Helge

Egypt, but I’d like to see Ghana taking the crown!

So good luck to Ghana, they’ll need it.

  • Sarah

I think that egypt will win, even though they cheated against algeria by paying the reff. It wasnt a fair game, but I know that egypt will do great!

the Pharohs won’t go back home empty handed..they would win today’s game, we, Arabs, realise and respect that Ghana is a strong team, but when it comes to Egypt it is different.. Allah supports Egypt team because they always thank Him for his grace… Good Luck to achieve the victory :)
